1543 Henry VIII of England marries his sixth and final wife, Catherine Parr (1512 - 1548) at Hampton Court Palace.

She had already lost two husbands when she married Henry. She survived him, and in 1547 married the Lord High Admiral Thomas Seymour of Sudeley (1508–1549).

1690 Protestant forces led by William of Orange (1650 - 1702) defeated the Roman Catholic army of James II at the Battle of the Boyne in Ireland.


William was 'stadtholder' of the Netherlands and in 1688-1689 became king of England in the 'Glorious Revolution', ruling jointly with his wife, Mary. He deposed James II.

1962 The Rolling Stones give their first public performance at the Marquee Club in London.

The Rolling Stones are an English rock band formed in 1962 in London when multi-instrumentalist Brian Jones and pianist Ian Stewart were joined by vocalist Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards. Bassist Bill Wyman and drummer Charlie Watts completed the early lineup. Stewart, deemed unsuitable as a teen idol, was removed from the official lineup in 1963 but continued to work with the band as road manager and keyboardist until his death in 1985.
